This week's "Employee of the Month" is Barbara.

She came to work at Gallery Graphics back in late 1999 & just never left. She is the overseer of the wacky framing bunch & the guys in the "Saw Shop"(which you will meet 1 by 1). Barbara enjoys getting right in the trenches with her team to bust out 100s of frames a day. Quality is something she prides herself on & there is never a time she doesn't want to hear about how to improve it.

Per Barbara ~ I would like to say that MY CREW is great - The teamwork is E-X-C-E-L-L-E-N-T!! It makes the day more enjoyable.

Reasons for working here? Loves the location, snuggled into the Ozarks and great hours, what's not to love!!

Thomas came to us as a young man many, many moons ago. 1987 to be exact. His relationship with Mr. Bright started long before Gallery Graphics was even a twinkle of a thought. So to make the inevitable migration to our side was in his cards. Early on he proved to enjoyed being the "Go to Guy" & he kept that pseudo-name for over 20 years. The Sales Department recently welcomed him to the front & he has once again shown his versatility & skills.

New Year, New Employees

New Additions Everywhere!!

It has been awhile since we (namely Me) have posted anything, sorry been busy. But now we (me again!!) are ready to get some things done. We are happy to announce that we received 3 (NEEDED) additions. Out of thousands of applicants these are the lucky ones that made it!!

1st (left) we have MARY. She started in November as our NEW Network Administrator. She enjoys the wonderful people of Gallery Graphics, products & that is close to her home. If you stop by her office you find her favorite image, Laurie Snow Hein’s Playing Nurse As her first job in working with computers, she is already loving it!! And fitting right in.

Next is PAULA (Center) - She is the newest addition to our Sales Department. As you can tell from her picture, she a ray of sunshine. If she is not Pheasant hunting(OMG), playing with grandbabies, you will find her motoring along on the Road King!! Her Fav: The End of a Perfect Day by C. Warde Traver 3352-2978

And last but not least is RICHARD (Right) "Low Man on the Totem Pole". Poor soul came to our "Woman" dominated department. 2009 State Champions

We are so happy to announce that McDonald County High School Cheerleaders have done it again!!
Varsity has won their 3rd consecutive state title & the Junior squad has taken fourth. They are now off to Florida (February 12th-16th, 2010) for the National High School Cheerleading Championship (NHSCC).

"The National High School Cheerleading Championship (NHSCC) is the most prestigious cheerleading championship in the country. The NHSCC is held at the Walt Disney World® Resort in Orlando, Florida, and nationally televised on ESPN and ESPN2 to over 100 million homes and 32 countries nationwide each year."

Noretta is proud to introduce her new Son-In-Law, David. The quaint ceremony was held in Bella Vista, Arkansas on October 13th, 2009. Family members from both the bride & groom were able to bless this union. The leaves have recently turned from lush green to the firey autumn colors, which made for a breath taking backdrop. The Bella Vista lake seemed to have been personally ordered for the young couple's dream wedding. Fears over rain seemed to be heard, as the clouds parted for the ceremony & returned as the wedding party jumped into their cars to leave for the post activities.

Cassie is caught giving her mom an "all too telling" glance before the ceremony began.

The newlyweds met each other at their high school & instantly knew this was true love.

So hand in hand they leave as "Man & Wife" to start their new life together.

Best wishes Cassie & David on your future together!!

Well a few months back I came across a blog that I instantly fell in love with. Loved enough that I actually signed up on my personal blogger. (Yes, I have that much to say that I can have a personal blog, twitter, Myspace & Facebook, actually quite :( sad)

The Oregon based blogger is not only a wonderful speaker, but she also has an adorable brood of red headed angels and an equally entertaining husband. Her blog features daily adventures, Wordless Wednesday (cheek squishing adorable pics of her children), updates on month long reviews (she is doing a Sensa review right now) & of course the all important FREE giveaways (I get goosebumps just thinking of freebies). Yes, there are several of these bloggers out there, but ALITM had the right amount of information, random opinions, cuteness & a splash of caffeine (OK I promise no more bad coffee references). The items that have been listed range from jewelry to a Fortamajig (a cool fort making apparatus that might be in Santa's bag this year). BABIES BABIES everywhere!!

We are happy to announce that we had several babies born this week. No not people in the office... but just as cute!!

First, May 8th around 3 am Stephanie's wait was over. She woke up to a NEW BABY HONIE. Here is Scott and the Baby Honie. She is about 18 hours old and needing a lil help. She had many visitors including a lil one. She weighed in at about 35 lbs. Dark brown and white with the cutest lil hooves. Yes I almost said "Feet"!!

**UPDATE: I took so long posting this story that they have named the pony. I am happy to introduce Isabella or Izzy for short. Thank you for all of your suggestions well wishings. I hopefully will be able to post some video of her shortly.

Also, the baby Killdeer hatched!! Only 1 did but he was so cute I had to get a pic of him.

Sadly, he was the only one. But he was a fast lil guy. This picture was taken about an hour after he was born. Can't wait till next year to see the next brood!!

AHHH Springtime in the Ozarks

Well the clouds have turned from grey to cotton white, the wind is not as icy & things are starting to boom, blossom & sprout everywhere. Perfect time to take breaks outside & enjoy nature. Of course "tipping thru the tulips" is not as easy as a task on a 15 minute break. But us girls will use any excuse to grasp at any extra rays of sunshine. The silence of our mental break was interrupted by a familiar cry. If you have never heard the cry or seen the dance here you go...

Once we heard that we froze & started looking where we were stepping. Time was ticking away, we started to get nervous. We weren't going to get to see them. TICK, TICK, TICK... then it happened...

3 beautiful eggs, perfectly nestled amongst the rocks and green blades of grass. With seconds left in our break we quickly grabbed a heavy metal stand and placed near the nest, hoping this will deter the mowers and random cars from crushing the small innocent birds.

Imaging we felt much like Lewis & Clark, great adventurers, discovering once in a lifetime treasures and scientifically inclined we stumbled upon another small treasure that we are needing help identifying.

The inhabitant will never tell it's secret but we would like to know who's name we should be mourning. We are torn between 2 species. Robin's egg or a Starling's egg? Please chime in... BTY Happy Earth Day everyone!! Go do something good for Mother Nature.

Who called Snow day? 2009

So what does Gallery Graphics do when we get close to an inch & 1/2 of ice plus snow? That's right we go sledding!! Grabbing our cardboard tops we hit the slopes with the enthusiasm of teenagers. Unfortunately, our bodies were not in the same age bracket. No there was no broken bones, but there was a lot of huffing & puffing. After many races were raced, skin started to turn blue(don't forget the soaking clothes) we decided to make the long trek back home with much less enthusiasm as before.

Thanks to Trisha of New York, for this special find!! She spotted Pinkie and Blue Boy amongst the family photos, empty photo frames and candelabras. The frame in the middle also looks suspiciously familiar. It seems as if Victorian and vintage deco never went out of style.

Tammy Putman

Tammy Putman currently of Lee’s Summit, MO first became interested in photography about 14 years ago. A self-taught photographer initially interested in photographing sunsets and sunrises and has expanded to landscapes, people, animals, and macro photography of flowers. Tammy Putman’s favorite subjects to photograph are her dog and weather conditions, especially foggy mornings.

“With my photography, I look for things that catch my eye. It could be a sunset, sunrise, a flower, a child playing, a flower or a reflection and the way the light lands on the subject and just illuminates it. Visions that many see every day but, never really see or even take a second look at.”

Tammy Putman has had photographs appearing in a local weather calendar for the last several years, and has had winning photographs at the Missouri State Fair, The Plaza Lights, and several photographs in a past edition of the Missouri Department of Tourism.

Allene Lamour (?) ~ After researching for Allene Lamour , I hit a dead end. Luckily, we received a tidbit from a equally curious person. Here is the information we received:

"Allene Lamour "He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not"

As you might know Morris and Bendien N.Y. in 1900-1940 brought out affordable prints that copied many popular styles of original artists. The Louis Icart style print you sell above has a special anatomical error which I think was done intentionally by one of their staff artists. Allene Lamour I'm sure was a made up name to give the print some validity since the artist style copied was French. We have an original framed print of the one you offer. My family has owed this for as long as I can remember, but only a few years ago I looked at it closely and thought there was something about her feet that didn't seem right. And 'right' is the key, as she has two right feet. My theory with little historical information is, here you are a staff artist copying the styles of some popular artists. Insult to injury, there is no recognition of your talent but a paycheck as some fake artist name is created to make the buyer feel more classy. So to make it yours and known to your family and friends you take a calculated risk. It's all in the toes! So, this may be some insignificant little fluff but your company is perhaps one of few who offer this print. Worth a potential smile in your finding out about it.

Mistress of Gossip

Fall in the Town of Noel, MO

Well the leaves are changing, there is a crispness in the air & everyone is a little cheerier. No it is not because the gas prices are going down (ok it is not JUST because gas prices are going down. This is the time of year when everyone is a little more patient, laid back and we seem to appreciate we made it another year. (ABOVE: Picture of an autumn morning).

Pulling into Noel, MO from the north side of town you are welcomed by the Noel sign. The one lane bridge seems to transitions you into the small town feel.

This picture shows the entire Main Street. It is a rolling hill. But Noel does have everything one would need. A grocery store, post office, hardware and feed store, movie rental, gas stations (4 to be exact) and a bakery (you must have your sweets!!)

The quaintness does not end with the town's name or establishments. It seems as if each house, tree and leaf is placed in a way to invite you to come visit or perhaps imagine staying. Even the trees seem to be taking on the Christmas cheer, as they change from a green to marigolds to a crimson red before falling to the ground like crunchy snowflakes.

With the exception of the sunrise, these were all taken on an 1 hour lunch. So go out, slow down and appreciate your town, surroundings and the season!!

Just in Time for Halloween!!

Gallery shows up everywhere.

There I was, sitting in the living room watching "Scary... But True" (this is a show from 2001) and they are showcasing the Willard Library in Evansville, Indiana.

There are reports of the library being haunted by the "Grey Lady". The Grey Lady is said to be the ghost of Louise Carpenter, daughter of the founder Willard Carpenter. The ghost story is told that she haunts this halls, stairs, books & cases due to the fact that her father left almost all of his estate to the library.

On this particular episode 2 teenagers are in search of the Grey Lady. While searching, the Children's Reading Room, the female encounters an entity. A book flys off the shelf. Screams and sobbing ensues, and then as a close up of the girl's tear stained face flashes on the screen, there it is... The Fairy Tale by Walther Firle!! Not once but several times. The longest view of the print, is used as a backdrop during a long sob-filled monologue (that in my excitement of this discovery, tune out). Viewing this print in full color and it is enduring and heartwarming. But view it in night vision (because that is how all shows about ghosts & things that "go bump in the night" are filmed) and your hackles will raise, a lump will stifle your screams and the girl's eyes will raise from the book to stare straight into your soul...

Sorry, I just love Halloween and a good ghost story.

Gallery gets another big movie cameo in HBO's version of "Grey Gardens" featuring Drew Barrymore (as Little Edie) and Jessica Lang (as Big Edie) and Jeanne Tripplehorn (as Jackie Kennedy Onassis). This sad but true tale is "based on the life stories of the eccentric aunt and first cousin of Jackie Kennedy (both named Edith Bouvier Beale aka "Big and Little Edie") raised as Park Avenue débutantes but who withdrew from New York society, taking shelter at their Long Island summer home, "Grey Gardens." As their wealth and contact with the outside world dwindled, so did their grasp on reality. They were reintroduced to the world when international tabloids learned of a health department raid on their home, and Jackie swooped in to save her relatives." ~ Anonymous

This is a rendition of the original 1975 documentary (that originally brought the ladies out of seclusion and made them catapult to cult icons status. The wildly acclaimed musical rendition (which ran from November 2, 2006 to July 29, 2007) featured Christine Ebersole (Lil Edie), Mary Louise Wilson (Big Edie) and John McMartin (J.V. "Major" Bouvier / Norman Vincent Peale).

It is still unclear if this will be direct to T.V. or may see it's day on the silver screen. A tentative 2009 release has been announced.

Taken from a back issue of Tattoo Magazine; Skin & Ink. By: Palmer Utterback "In biblical times, horses, were a symbol of wealth, status and, in warfare, power. A joint German-Egyptian archeological team has reported a discovery of horse stables, which housed over 400 horses, on the edge of the Nile Delta. The stables have been linked to pharaoh Ramses II who ruled more than 3,000 years ago. Such stables presumably boarded war horses similar to those used to draw the pharaoh's chariots in pursuit of the Israelites into the Red Sea. While the galloping steeds of Pharaoh's Horses convey a sense of power, majesty and grace, the implied reference to Exodus 14 suggests a symbolic warning against the singular pursuit of a tragic course with regard to the consequences: "The water flowed back and covered the chariots and horsemen-the entire army of Pharaoh that had followed the Israelites into the sea. Not one of them survived (Exodus 14:28)."I obtained some more fascinating historical information from Mary Lou Walbergh. J.F. Herring, the creator of Pharaoh's Horses, actually owned the Arabian stallion which he used as his model for many of his paintings including Pharaoh's Horses. The stallion's name was Imaun, after the Imaum of Persia, who gave him along with three other purebred Arabs, to Queen Victoria. The Queen thought quite sensibly, that Imaun might prove to be too much horse for her, so she gave him to her Chief Clerk. This man immediately sold him at Tattersall's, the famed horse sales establishment which is in business to this very day. Herring bought him and kept him all of the rest of his very long life. Herring hired a trainer to train Imaun to lie down, to be "housebroken." This well respected trainer said the Imaun was the most brilliant horse with whom he had ever worked. Herring loved Imaun so much, that it is quite possible to pick out the horse he painted using him as a model, because of the love and care taken with every stroke of the brush. Imaun is all three heads in The Pharaoh's Horses, as well as in many other Herring paintings."

Cicely Mary Barker

Cicely Mary Barker - (June 28, 1895 - February 16, 1973) Cicely Mary Barker was born in 1895 in Croydon, a town near London, England. She suffered from epilepsy as a child and remained physically delicate for most of her life. Cicely Mary Barker was unable to go to school, so she was educated at home and spent much of her time on her own, reading and drawing.
In 1908, when Cicely Mary Barker was 13, her father enrolled her at Croydon Art Society, where they both exhibited work. She also enrolled in a Correspondence Art course which she continued until 1918. At 16, Cicely Mary Barker was elected a life member of Croydon Art Society, the youngest person ever to receive this honour. The art critic for the Croydon advertiser commented: "Her drawings show a remarkable freedom of spirit. Cicely Mary Barker has distinct promise."
In 1911, when she was 15 her father submitted some of her work to Raphael Tuck, the stationery printer, who bought four of her pictures for greeting cards. From this time onwards, Cicely Mary Barker was able to sell her work to magazines, to postcard and greeting card manufacturers, and later to book publishers. This was very helpful to the family finances for her father died when Cicely Mary Barker was 17, leaving Cicely, her elder sister and her mother in difficult circumstances.
Cicely Mary Barker was industrious and determined. She sent her flower fairy paintings to several publishers before Blackie accepted them for publication in 1923. She was paid only £25 for a total of twenty-four illustrations and verses in Flower Fairies of the Spring, the first of the Flower Fairy series. Seven more little books about Fairies were to follow. Cicely Mary Barker was also influenced by the huge popular interest in fairies which developed from the Victorian enthusiasm for fairy stories and was epitomised by the immense popularity of J M Barrie's Peter Pan in the early part of the 20th century. Published in 1923, Flower Fairies of the Spring was well received by a post-industrial, war-weary public who were charmed by Cicely Mary Barker's vision of hope and innocence, which seemed to evoke a less aggressively modern world.
A Joy Ride, Elves and Fairies, 1918 Queen Mary did much to encourage the vogue for fairy paintings during the 1920s by frequently sending postcards depicting fairies to her friends. This popularity saw the publication of Cicely Mary Barker's Elves and Fairies postcards in 1918.
Cicely Mary Barker always used real-life models for her paintings. Most of the models came from the kindergarten her sister Dorothy ran in the back room of the house in which they lived. She also painted the children and relatives. One of her models was Gladys Tidy, the young girl who came to the house every Saturday to do the household work.
Cicely Mary Barker always asked the child model to hold the flower, twig or blossom of a particular fairy, for she wanted to be sure of the accuracy of her depiction of the shape, texture and form of the plant. Her only alteration was to the size, she enlarged the flower to make it the same size as the child.
Cicely Mary Barker's flowers are always botanically accurate. If she could not find a flower close at hand, she enlisted the help of staff at Kew Gardens, who would often visit with specimens for her to paint. Cicely Mary Barker's Fairies are not ethereal fairies of the supernatural, but portraits of real children, whose characters match the characters of the flowers.

Doug Knutson

Doug Knutson - Native Iowan, Doug Knutson, brings to life his Midwest surroundings in his landscapes, still life and wildlife paintings. Even as a youngster growing up in Council Bluffs, Iowa, Doug Knutson knew he would devote his life to his artwork. Following graduation from Omaha Art School, he began his career as an illustrator in the Editorial Art Department of an Omaha newspaper. After about 12 years at that position, Doug Knutson’s commercial art career took him to an Eastern Iowan illustration studio where he spent several years working for national clients.
Over the years he has completed illustrations for such places as Burger King, Wal-Mart, Random House, McDonalds, John Deere, The Franklin Mint and Target. Illustrations have ranged from CD and video cases to children's books covers, posters, beer labels, advertising materials and collectibles tins and plates. Upon becoming a freelance illustrator several years ago, the flexibility of time led Doug Knutson back to his love of nostalgia, antiques and rural life, and today there are over 65 acrylic paintings in print, inspired by his Midwestern surroundings. Currently, Doug Knutson resides in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, balancing his time between illustration assignments and images for prints.

Laurie Snow Hein - Although Laurie Snow Hein has always drawn, when her kindergarten teacher asked if she was going to be an artist, she replied that "no", she planned to be a doctor. Her talent was inescapable, though, as both parents, a grandmother and brother were also artistic. A mother of six and an avid animal lover, Laurie Snow Hein's favorite subjects are children and animals. She says her love for nature and the challenge of portraying the beauty of God's creations keep her painting. At home in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, Laurie Snow Hein carries her love for animals into the ring, raising show horses, goats and chickens.
She began her venture into art by coloring sepia-tone photographs for her dad's studio at the age of eight. Laurie Snow Hein studied with a well-known illustrator through high school and received a full scholarship to Columbus College of Art and Design.
Laurie Snow Hein refers to her style as "Old-World Realism," but her technique often gives way to abstract or impressionistic forms. Julie Ueland - The Northwest is home to artist Julie Ueland, who at age 10 began drawing and painting under the guidance of British impressionist Gloria Jasper. Entrepreneurial from childhood, Julie Ueland started a mural painting enterprise at age 13 that provided her with steady work and spending money through high school. She attended Pacific Lutheran University majoring in secondary art education and psychology, this time launching a small business from her dorm room where she created hand painted cards and personalized tee shirts for fellow coeds. After graduation Julie Ueland taught drawing, painting and ceramics at Bethel High School in Tacoma, Washington and simultaneously began a home-based jewelry business which quickly grew to employ her students in an effort to get the orders out the door. Ueland Arts was officially incorporated in l985, taking Julie Ueland out of the classroom and into the fashion accessories marketplace full time. Designing, manufacturing, marketing and employing up to 50 employees at a time, Julie Ueland was in her element designing jewelry, belts, handbags, and hair accessories for retailers including major department stores Nordstrom and Macy’s. In l991 Julie Ueland and her family moved to the scenic Columbia River Gorge where she felt the call to start a new art-related venture. With a toddler and infant along side, Julie Ueland started Backsplash, a custom tile company that mutated to a ceramic tableware studio known for creating Fish On dishes and accessories. It is at this juncture that, while shopping at an airport store, Julie Ueland’s designs caught the eye of Enesco’s art director and her licensing career began. Julie Ueland has since been licensing her designs to manufacturers in the gift and home accessories market and currently works from her home in the beautiful recreational area known as “The Gorge”.

Todd Williams - Todd Williams, a Carthage, Missouri native, became involved in art at an early age. In grammar school his watercolor of the Missouri State Capitol was chosen to be shown on national television. Encouraged to continue his artistic talent throughout his school education, Todd Williams earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Missouri Southern State University in 1986. He began his career in the field of graphic arts after earning his degree. Todd Williams has worked as a print and art director, graphic designer and photographer for several large product manufacturing companies. Although he has spent many years building his career in graphics, Todd Williams has never lost sight of his true passion: creating fine art. He always finds time to paint, sketch, or photograph the world around him. Todd Williams’s medium of choice is pastel, and his favorite design element is color. He uses rich, vibrant color to bring life and inspiration to his landscapes, still life's, and portraits. As Todd explains, “If I can capture through my artwork a mood, a feeling that compels the viewer to reminisce about a place they’ve been, or just reaches out to them, to me, that’s a success. Tom Browning -Born in 1949, Tom Browning has been a professional artist since 1972. Although his true passion for art is best seen in his fine art genre paintings, he is perhaps best known for his wonderful images of Santa Claus.
After attending the University of Oregon as an art major, Tom Browning almost immediately began selling and submitting paintings to the galleries. As his interests in subject matter and medium continued to evolve, collectors continued encouragement by eagerly accepting his changing themes and directions. Now there are few subjects Tom Browning hasn't painted, but figures, still life and landscapes remain his favorites.

It's ironic that a commercial venture launched by Tom Browning and his wife, Joyce, fifteen years ago created an entirely new market for Santa Claus and put Tom Browning at the top when it comes to depicting the beloved icon both at work and play. Tom Browning's treatment of these paintings as fine art was a key factor in their success and popularity.
In 1994 his instructional book "Timeless Techniques for Better Oil Paintings" revealed yet another aspect of Tom Browning's talents — teaching. Since then, he has conducted oil painting workshops all across the country, and has helped and encouraged hundreds of eager to learn painters of all ages.
Even though people have been the subjects of Tom Browning's paintings, a recent interest in portraiture has found him focusing on treating the crafts as yet another form of fine art. Thank you to all of the customers, rep & vendors calling & checking on us here in Noel, MO. Luckily, we have no tragedies to report. All of our employees, friends & families are safe. We are located about 30 to 45 minutes from the closest damage.
There are very scary stories of people visiting family, leaving to go home & within minutes of leaving being pelleted with hail, rain & wind. After this passes returning to the house they just left, to find softball size hail had broken windows & a roof being torn off a garage. We have other tales of people driving down the road, not being able to see, wind pushing debris everywhere & then it is gone.
Newton county (where the northern tornado was), Benton county (strong straight line winds & smaller tornadoes) & Picher, OK (the complete town was devastated) are all within the 45 mintues of Gallery Graphics. We are very lucky to be located where we are.
Thank you again for your concerns. We are all safe & wish others in the community to a quick recovery.
